I can understand the collector getting canned, after the having those checks laying around. What's the deal with the assessor? Did she have something to do with that?

I think I saw Pam Davis at a city council meeting. Was she the one that Linda Perreira ripped her a new asshole in public?

Way to go Flanagan !!! When a problem comes up, don't talk about it. Clean it up ! This guy has done more in 5 months for Fall River than could ever be expected. I hope the citizens support him as he does his job.

Just got home. Thanks for the email. Nothing on the Herald News site about this. Whoever left that money laying around deserved to get fired. Good Job Mayor.

Yep. I felt bad for her. Linda was screaming at her and jamming a finger at her. Adam Chapdelaine put Linda in her place but the damage was done. Obviously Linda had no idea what she was talking about, but she really humiliated and screamed at Pam on public tv. Maybe she was doing a lousy job?

Thanks for the support. Yeah.. the HN does not want any competitors.
We tried to advertise with them and they refused. Said we were "direct competition". Yeah right. A free website is really going to hurt them. But people continue to post on their site even though they delete any comments that do not fit their agenda. If anyone has suggestions on how to get more people to contribute to this site, we'd love to hear them. :)

I'd bet that this is just the beginning. Now that Mayor Flanagan has 6 months under his belt, and a solid team in place, he's probably ready to shuffle some things around in city hall.

Lyonnaise got exactly what she deserved. As a 'professional' who is salaried she is expected to get the job done. The fact that she had all those checks laying on her desk is reprehensible. That is true even if this city was swimming in cash. The city was losing interest on that money.

Why did LP go off on the assessor? The assessor works for the mayor not the city council IIRC. So was it personal?

I'd guess that Pam Davis did herself in with her poor attitude. She seemed qualified and hard working. But a terrible "we're never wrong" attitude and zero customer service skills.

See, now that's where I get confused......I thought it was a prerequisite to be an insufferable arrogant ass to hold down a higher city position..... :D

Linda has no right to reprimand anyone, especially since she is a proven liar (tiff with herald news reporter, and DSS ), and the problems she caused herself with her racist jokes.and don't forget how she came to the Hurricane's defense. How dare she question anyone, she has no right being a city councilor. I for one don't want her representing me, but it just seems there is no way to get rid of her. She continually gets the vote. It's astonishing I just don't understand it, the voters know what I know about her, it was public knowledge, but they still vote her in. I saw a sign posted by her brother, even he called her a cheat and a liar. Now how bad can it be when your own brother tells people not to vote for you.....Rebecca

Concerning the brother and the opinion of his sister, keep in mind that you do not pick your relatives. He may be the problem and is hurting her anyway he can, who knows.

As far as the public outburst, did it concern anything associated with the city of FR? Or was it an item of a personal nature?

In any event her lack of decorum since she is a public official speaks volumes for her professionalism, (or lack thereof) doesn't it?

She was in no official position concerning the other individual. Doesn't this individual work at the behest of the Mayor?

And, as far as her still being a city councilor Thomas Jefferson said it best "You get the government you deserve"

It is apparent to me that the longer one holds an elected position the farther away from objectivity one gets. They go from serving the community to ruling the community.

I can solve all our problems in that respect and I can sum it up in four words. Mandatory lifetime term limits. It circumvents voter complacency.

The two party system has made government one big monoply game. They care more about what is good for 'the party' than what is good for the people they serve.

It amazes me too. The public just keeps voting in these known political hacks.
I watch on TV as they say nothing, yet drone on and on just for "air time". How much more do we have to listen to Bigelow talk about "stats, indicators, and ticklers"? It's painful to listen to him. Casey repeats whatever the last person said. Linda P. put's on a performance whenever she grabs air-time. Her favorite saying is "and frankly". Linda..."frankly" means "truth, or honesty". Does that mean that you feel the need to give us a heads-up when you are not lyeing? Ever notice the bored look on Linda's face whenever Poulin grabs the floor. She's just dying for more airtime to perform.
And then we have Mr. President Mumbles Camara who is just "out there" and not worth commenting on.

Before I comment on the others I need to get more stats and indicators. But frankly, I really don't give a shit.

I wonder why the assessors position hasn't been posted on the Massachusetts Association of Assessing Officers website. That is where any QUALIFIED person seeking an assessors job would be looking for employment.

Most likely her repacement has already been chosen........a posting of that position will occur if there is a legal reason to do so. Considering that the former assessor and her staff of 5 could not keep up with the simple task of opening envelopes and making bank deposits makes one think that contracting out that entire office is the way to go.

I'll bet a local bank or credit union would gladly handle that account for FR for a small fee. Heck I'd do it for a simple 2% fee! That would be what, about 150K a year!?? Those deposits would be timely!

In addition whenever they re-assess FR real estate don't they always hire a private 'professional firm' to do so? That leaves these employees free to do....what???

I am a firm believer of always promoting from within. It sets possible goals for everyone at different levels within a given system to be work hard if they want to be considered for any promotion. But political payback often rears it's ugly head when these positions do get filled.

The problem then becomes do you get another do-nothing political appointment to 'work' for the citizens of FR?

Do these jobs really need to be filled ? Is it possible that another department head could assume the role of one or both of these departments also? It seems that the assessor and collectors departments are connected at the hip anyway. Does every department really need a separate department head? It's just a thought. If we did without some of the "bosses" we could probably recognize substantial savings. I've always found that a larger workforce does not automatically translate into greater production, because the pace is slowed down due to the lack of urgency. On the other hand, a smaller group of people, doing the same workload, almost always seem to put out the same workload as a larger group. I think it may be human nature that people tend to work more under pressure.
