View Full Version : Introduce Yourself....

KoopaTroopa
03-25-2008, 06:59 PM
So, I decided to start this thread where everyone should introduce himself/herself. When I ran a forum board, I made everyone introduce him/her-self as the first post. Just tell a little about yourself, no need to get specific or too personal.

I'll start....

I go by KoopaTroopa on a lot of forums, so if you see this name (or KoopaTroopa2)...it's most likely me. I've lived in Fall River for about 10 years now & moved here from NJ.
I'm 27, male, and trying to find a real chemist job since that's what I have a B.S. in until I go back to grad school. I love kids, so I usually volunteer through my work to teach elementary kids about science. Like next month, teaching 4th graders about meteorology.
As of right now, I'm playing Smash Bros. Brawl on the Wii & getting my ass kicked. Yes, I still play Wii now & then to relax...well, get pissed off for now. Stupid game; I don't remember it being so hard.
I hate virtual reality shows, like American Idol, Deal or No Deal, & whatever. The shows are lame.

Anyway, I saw the FallRiverTalks.com banner near Workout World & decided to join since it's a local forum board.

Any more questions about me, besides my name, just ask away.

Let's see some more posts in this thread & get some more activity on this board. There are over 150 members, so I should see over 150 replies :p

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edit: I shoot pool often, well, whenever...so I'm at Straight Shooters or Rack'em Up.

Edit 2: I was just made SuperModerator, so they'll be some suggestions & changes I'll be making.
If there are any questions or comments, let me know. If you find something offensive, let me know, and we'll decide what to do.

Edit 3: If you're 18 & over, join the "Social Scene" part & join the chat function on the main section of that part. I'm usually in there. No discriminatory remarks will be tolerated.
Introduce Yourself damn it. Don't just read about me, add yourself to the thread

Thanks Koopa, I appreciate your efforts. I cannot tell you how frustrating it is to see so little participation. I'm tempted to throw in the towel. I started this site because I thought that Fall Riverites would appreciate another place to exchange ideas, frustrations, and meet other neighbors. I enlisted the help of a couple friends and got this thing up and running. It takes a lot of time and money to keep updating the design. I was hoping to get a few advertisers to help with the expense. So far all the ads you see on here are "freebies" for business's recommended by posters on this site. We have not charged a single dime to anybody. This site is getting an average of 200 visitors a day according to our sitemeter. And yet only a very small percentage will register or participate. We just modified the site so that unregistered visitors can only view the 1st post in every thread. It's helped a bit. I think I may be out of ideas. Maybe this type of forum is just not relevant for Fall River. Essentially we have lots of viewers, but very few that are willing to participate. I'm thinking I'll probably give it a few more weeks, and if no significant improvement, I'll take it that this forum is just not needed and "pull the plug"
Again, thanks very much for your idea for this "introduction forum". I'm also open to any suggestions.

p.s. It will be interesting to see how many "introductions" we get posted here.

It takes a while for a forum board to develop, especially one that's aimed towards Fall River people. The one I ran was a car site for Mitsubishi Galant owners, so my crowd was for Mitsubishi owners throughout New England.

However, if people start asking for help or recommendations by fellow members, this site could take off. Examples are:

1. Car problems - We all have car problems, so if someone asks, maybe someone will respond with a solution or good mechanic around.
2. PC Problems - We all have PC problems, like spyware or whatever. I'm pretty good at fixing PCs or recommending suggestions, so if someone asks, I'll help. It'll be cheaper asking for help here than wasting your money at BestBuy's GeekSquad when I can probably solve your problem for free.

This should probably be posted in the suggestions section :o but I did add more info about myself in this post, so it's fine :)

Just a guy from Fall River

ok..I live in Fall River and do a good amount of boating/fishing in the river. I also hang around Battleship Cove and the boardwalk a lot. I love hanging around the waterfront. I think the seagulls even recognize me. My biggest gripe about my favorite area is that everything's always closed. Why is it that with such a beautifull waterfront, there are no businesses? I also like to walk around the Battleships. It's probably the best deal anywhere in the city. I think the annual membership is like $50 bucks for a family membership. For that you can go on any of the exhibits as much as you want. Sometimes I go on the Battleship just for a walk and a hot dog. It's great to stand on the Battleship and watch the boats go by in the summer. :)

Well let me introduce myself... Hi Everyone! my name is Rob, I was born and raised here in Fall River's South End. I'm a Diman Regional Alumni of the class of '99. I first saw the fallrivertalks.com banner at the former Earnsaw's Diner months ago but never visted the site until recently. I enjoy listening to WSAR to keep me informed on local issues and figured this would be a great place to discuss issues regarding Fall River. I think this city has a lot of potential but we've just had the wrong people in charge for too long and look forward to change!

Ok, I guess I'm going to finally give this a shot. I've been reading the few introductions that have been posted, and decided its my turn. I am a wife, mother, and grandmother, in that order. I take all of those rolls very seriously. I am a born and raised Fall Riverite, and proud of it. I am also a former Quaker Fabric employee who devoted 20 years of my life to that company. I'm not bitter about that, just sad! I do have strong opinions on certain matters, but I do consider myself to be very open-minded. I used to listen to WSAR quite often, but I just haven't had much time to listen lately. I do like to keep up on the issues of this city, and think this forum is a great venue for that. I really do hope that more people will begin to post here.

An introduction and some info on me

Grew up in Swansea, North Dartmouth, and later New Bedford and then Fall River. As like other guys, I like golf, baseball and football. I am middle aged, and kinda laid back now.... I read a-lot. In sort was given a-lot of good memories living in Fall River, enough memories to last another life time.

and over this time here was very fortunate to meet some real good and decent friends here in fall river, some of the best friends and times, I'll always remember them well.

Saw diff. adds for the site around the city, but only looked into it when my cousin mentioned the site. (she too is a member) I don't expect to get too much out of the site, but it is nice to have a place where people from the same community can go and speak of their experiences. For now I am having fun exploring the site.;)

My name is Anne and I'm 38. I grew up in Westport and moved to Fall River when I was 18. I have a 19 year old daughter and 8 month old Grandson that live with me up the North end. I'm a companion and housekeeper for the elderly.
I also saw the sign for "Fall River Talks" near "WOW", popular area I imagine! Not sure why more people haven't gotten involved with the site, but I think it's a great idea and I hope more people join!

My name is not Henry & I'm not a kid (I'm 49). My real name is Tom but I'm tired of using the same name on all the forums I visit.

I grew up in the Maplewood section of Fall River, where I lived from 1960 until I moved to Providence in 1981. Now I live in Warren, RI.

I'll be visiting this forum from time to time because I still like to check out what's happenning in my home town. Sometimes I'll read a story on the Herald News website, or see a name that I remember from years ago & it brings back a lot of memories. I remember when they built the Harbour Mall behind my elementary school.

Hi,
My name is Tony and I am 48 years old. Originally from Fall River (Maplewood section of the city) I moved to Cape Cod about 18 years ago because of my job. I go back to Fall River every week or so to visit my family and friends. I now live in Sagamore Beach with my two dachshunds Gus and Nickie. I miss Fall River and thinking about moving back and commuting. Any thoughts?

You couldn't pay me enough to commute to the Cape! Wouldn't mind living there, but I'd hate the traffic. Seriously, although you'd probably save money in living expenses, I think you'd add to your mental health load with a horrible, time-consuming, commute.
Disclaimer: This is just my opinion, I'm sure there are tons of people who will disagree (but please, those dissenters, don't verbally attack me, you're entitled to your opinion too and I promise not to attack you if you disagree.)

For about 3 months I commuted from Fall River when I first started working in Falmouth. It was two hours out of every day just driving. Drove me batty!
But I'm older now. Maybe I can tolerate it a lot better now.
Thanks for your input!

I am a new resident of FR and would love to meet others with same interests. I am a lover of the ocean, and the beach - if it's wet I'm there LOL. I am 53 and almost finished with my BA in psychology w/a minor in criminal & social justice. Nothing like a late bloomer.

Would like to get to know people in the area for friendship and some fun. I have 3 children and 2 grandchildren. I am not quite sure how to begin meeting people around the area so if you would like to talk please email me at capecodyellowrose@yahoo.com.

I enjoy really good conversation, but I am a bit shy at first. If you have an suggestions about getting to know my new city please let me know. This move has been a bit daunting and I am not sure wether or not I am coming or going half the time. LOL Hope to meet some of you online. Thanks, Karen

Hey,
I grew up in FR and lived in the city for over 40 years and now live in Swansea. I grew up in the Flint / County street area and have a lot of fond memories. There are worse places to live. I am 52 a total movie nut and own around 3,000 movies mostly horror, cult foreign etc. Love baseball, football, hockey. I love to kayaking and anything Asian in culture. Went to Japan 3 years ago and it changed my life. Love to travel and occasionally like to write (mostly when I'm in pain). Hate virtual reality shows which are choreographed anyway and media based news. I love my country and hate our politics.
Peace,

Hi Karen, your situation seems similiar to my own, I am also a late bloomer. I am finishing a degree in English, with a minor in special education. I hope I made the right decision, you know going back to school. I am afraid with the economy I won't be able to find a job, especially in education. I am 52 with two children, and three grandchildren. Now here is how we differ. I am petrified of the ocean or any water for that matter, with the exception of my daily shower, I stay far away from water. The strange thing is I don't know why I am so afraid. but I am. Good luck in finishing your degree.........Rebecca

Hi I'm in my late 20's and I moved to FR in '99 from Wareham. Fall River might be the place to spend the next 10 - 15 years. After that I might just move near family in FL. But for now the South Coast Rail project is very interesting because it's actually on it's way to FR and I read it's supposed to be done by Dec., 2016 but who really knows lol. I'm a 3 year cigar enthusiast and I love that smoke shop on Rock Street called The Old Firehouse Smoke Shop. I also love the the state forest in the north end of FR it's a great places for a camera.
