Welcome to the beautiful season of Spring!
My screen name is IEXCEL2CD chosen for me by my brother some many years ago when I wasn't creative enough apparently to think of one on my own. I was born here in Fall River back in 59' in a time when Dominican Academy boasted no more than 200 students for all grades K through 8. We didn't have what is called "middle school" we simply had "Yes Sister"! Another lost legacy is Sacred Hearts Academy where I spent my Freshman year trying to introduce myself to all the Connelly boys. Ah to think...there once was a time Connelly was an "all boys' school!" Anybody remember that? Well at the end of that year I would transfer over to Bishop Gerrard HS since Sacred Hearts would close it's doors forever. Now part of Charlton Memorial Hospital I can still see reminants of what was a stunning building once.
It's funny, I work out of town in Attleboro and when I tell people I live in Fall River they just make these sounds of "oh". Almost like they want to say they are sorry! I don't get it! I've lived in Florida, New York, and all the while nothing compared. We have Boston, Newport, THE Cape and Providence.
I do believe that Fall River still has great potential and that the people have what it takes to turn it around. Sure, we have some less fortunate folks but that's all the way up to the Highlands now. Never used to be and doesn't have to be. What if....just once each day...we let an older person cross the street at their own pace....or picked up a trash barrel that the wind has blown into the street...or any number of ways to show we are caring compasssionate humans all in this together! Just my thoughts to include in my intro!
