Campfire / Burning in your yard

Does anyone know what the ordinance for having a small camp fire in your yard? I would like to have a small gathering of friends on my 1/8 acre parcel and would like to also have a small campfire if possible.

It is my understanding that if you live in Fall River you can not have ANY open fires at all...

Open burning is prohibited in 22 of the state's largest cities and towns due to the density of population and close proximity of buildings within their borders: Arlington, Belmont, Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Chelsea, Chicopee, Everett, Fall River, Holyoke, Lawrence, Lowell, Malden, Medford, New Bedford, Newton, Somerville, Springfield, Waltham, Watertown, West Springfield, and Worcester.

I know a guy in my neighborhood (lower highlands) bought one of those metal fire pits from Wal-Mart. Someone must have complained because the Fire Dept sent an engine and made him put it out.

Then that mean grills are illegal also since they have an open flame.......unless they are exempt because you are cooking food on it. Uuhhmmm......I say fire up the pit and break out the marshmallows!

I used to have neighbors all around me on Field St. that used them all the time. The smell and the smoke would often cause me to have to close my windows on whatever side the fire was on. It was very annoying.
